What are the benefits to using a soy based formula as compared to a milk based?
Similac sent me 2 samples in the mail of their advance milk based formula and their advance soy based. good sized samples too, a 12 oz can of powder for each. i would hate to waste the soy formula, but someone told me never to give a baby soy formula because it can impair their ability to digest milk as they get older.
so i am curious, is that true? and what are the benefits of soy formula?
just so you all know, i have been doing my best to breastfeed. im not ignorant of the benefits of breastmilk. unfortunatly it seems something is wrong with my mammary glands and i cant produce much of anything.
Both of my babies had a hard time digesting milk-based formulas (gassy, fussy, spitting up a lot) when I started them on formula at about 2 months old. I switched to soy (Similac Isomil) both times and it helped a lot.
Both of my kids transitioned from soy formula to whole milk at about 11 and a half months and did great. No problems. They are now 2 and 4 and love milk so much we go through about 2 gallons a week!
