Is green camo better to were then black camo when it's dark ?
" they say " that if you use black camo in the dark, people can see you becuase your black camo can be darker then out side when it's night time. so if you use green, it will be perfect to use becuase green is dark, but not darker then black. So that's why the swat team are useing green now. so is it good or what ?
Remember, the Camo (or DPM - Disruptive Pattern Material) is just a tool to aid concealment, not a magic "Invisible Cloak" the second you put it on!!
There are many aspects of maintaining concealment, or moving covertly etc, but the 5 main issues (or what was always drilled into us was the "5 S's" to always cover are:-
1) Shape. 2) Shine. 3) Silhouette. 4) Sound. 5) Smell.
1) Shape - This is where your DPM's or Camo's come into play, they are a tool to attempt to break up the natural shape of the "Human Body itself, Weapons, and Equipment", making all harder to differentiate from a given background/backdrop.
2) Shine - Obviously anything that shines immediately exposes you!! If you haven't dealt with this aspect of concealment, then you might as well wear a "Luminous Vest" and stand around smoking "Churchill Cigars". Prepare all Weapons and Equipment to ensure nothing "Shines" or "Glints" in a light source is directed at or on it.
3) Silhouette - Is more a matter of discipline than preparation. If up on top of a ridge line or a hill, don't for example stand up allowing those below to view your silhouette from below, don;t stand against a light background. If you come to a wall, don't look over the top, where both shape and silhouette of your Helmet may as an example give you away. Look around the side or through a peep hole.
If you have stopped at a location for example, keep movement to a minimum, the human eye picks up and recognises movement far more easily than it does something remaining completely still that they could be staring right at. Periphial vision also detects movements more easily than if looking right at something moving. Thus, keep movements minimised, even if you think a potential source of compromise isn't looking right at you!!
4) Sound - Again is as a matter of discipline, but one that you can still prepare for. You all "Shut Up" whilst out patrolling for example is fairly obvious. Furthermore, you check all of your Weapons and equipment for any rattles, metal on metal "chinks" or any other obvious "man made sounds" before you go out.
5) Smell - Don't attempt movement under concealment if you reek of your girlfriends favourite perfume or other "Man Made Smells!! If you are upwind of an enemy position for example, they'll smell you coming themselves from half a mile away!!
Using these preparations and being disciplined about concealment and/or covert movements, and remaining undetected, you could actually go out wearing light grey for that matter!!!!!!
There as a bit more to it all than I have covered here too, these are JUST the "Barebones and basics" of concealement.
Wearing DPM's alone doesn't make you undetectable!! Training and discipline about how to use the DPM to your advantage is what really matters!!
