what engine block is best to start with for a 78 cutlass supreme?
i have a 1978 oldsmobile cutlass supreme and it has a 305 moter and i would like to replace it but i dont know which engine block to start with any recomendations
Depends on your power goals and so forth. If it were mine, I'd look into a 383 stroker small block, a 400 Chevy small block, or a 455 big block. I think that 305 engines have the same motor mounts as bigger Chevy small blocks, so that shouldn't give you much trouble. You can buy engine blocks for really cheap then rebuild them with speed parts.
By the way, the bottom poster is wrong about the 305. There's no such thing as a Oldsmobile 305 engine. Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, and Buicks came from the factory with 305 engines but they were Chevy engines. GM put Chevy engines in all their vehicles including Cadillacs to cut costs.
