Math help - Step function?
Chantal works as a big chicken at a fast food chicken restaurant. She hands out flyers to people on the street. For every 10 customers that actually use the coupon she hands out, Chantal receives a $0.50 bonus.
Determine the rule of the function: (answer package says y= 0.80[x/10] but I don't understand step function for a number of reasons.
y would be the bonus, x would be number of customers. In the formula y = a[bx] how it be x/10 if the x is the number of customers and how did she get 0.8??
Wouldn't it make more sense to be 0.50 = a[10b] and it's unsolvable?
Please help me understand, will reward 5 stars, 10 points to best answer ![]()
thanks, also, if 92 customers use the coupon what bonus will chantal receive? you have to give an interval so,
y = 0.5[92/10] x has to be rounded down to 90
y = 4.5
what's the interval for this?
the equation should be y = (0.5) [x/10]
it is no 0.5 = something else, because you are trying to say that she gets an extra fifty cents for every 10 customers, so the step function does not allow the quantity x/10 to "step up" until it becomes the next integer value. not exactly sure where you got 0.8 from, it has nothing to do with the problem
