How to become a Foster Parent to zoo animals?
I alsways wondered how people get to raise anmial (fostering), (like zoo animals, until they are old enough to get released to the zoo)? I am not thinking about doing this myself, but was curious of the process. I see this on some shows on Discovery or animal planet andI find this interesting.
The previous answer was correct, however, on occassion zoos have used volunteers to do this as well. One case was with WCS in the Bronx which used 4 human foster mothers to care for a newborn Gorilla. However, this will never be done again. Research has shown that it is much better for the infant to be fostered by an individual of the same species if possible. They now train older females of the same species to be foster mothers, just in case.
With bears, this training is a little more difficult which explains the human foster parents.
